Conducting aluminum melting tests using a hydrogen gas burner! (March 2024)

正英製作所 正英製作所 本社、東京支店、名古屋営業所、大阪支店、広島支店、九州支店
At Seiei Manufacturing, we are working on the development of aluminum industrial furnaces that can contribute to achieving carbon neutrality and a decarbonized society. Recently, we conducted aluminum melting tests using hydrogen gas burners in collaboration with customers aiming for carbon-neutral manufacturing. For the test furnace, we adopted the "SMH type" melting holding furnace, which generates extremely low amounts of oxides. The heat source consisted of a hydrogen-exclusive gas burner "EIS-H2" for melting and an electric heater for holding the molten aluminum, creating a hybrid configuration. In this melting test, we compared the "melting speed" and "quality of molten aluminum" with those of a previously conducted LPG combustion gas burner. We will continue to analyze the detailed test results. Please refer to the attached document for more details about this test furnace. Feel free to contact us regarding the implementation of the tests.

Introduction to tests of a hydrogen combustion aluminum melting holding furnace for decarbonization.

A test furnace based on actual equipment, with dissolution using a hydrogen burner and retention using an electric heater. Thorough testing for decarbonization in aluminum casting sites can be conducted together with our customers!

It is possible to conduct aluminum melting tests using hydrogen combustion with ingot input. Please use it to verify the quality of the molten metal and its impact on the products. The melting gas burner employs a hydrogen burner and electric heaters for retention! It is a hybrid furnace that enables carbon neutrality. By exchanging burner parts, you can switch between fuel gases (hydrogen/LNG (natural gas)/LPG), allowing for adaptability to trends in gas supply. Additionally, the furnace structure has a high oxide suppression effect, so you can confirm this effect in actual operation. We are committed to solving problems in aluminum casting sites and promoting low carbon emissions. Please feel free to reach out to us. ~Equipment Overview~ Test Furnace: Aluminum Handheld Melting Retention Furnace (Oxide Suppression Structure) Model: SMH-150H2 Melting Capacity: 150 kg/h Retention Capacity: Retention Chamber 800 kg/ch *Actual effective capacity during continuous melting, specific gravity 2.4 Melting Temperature: 660–680℃ Control Accuracy: ±5℃ ~Heat Source Configuration~ Melting Burner: Hydrogen Combustion Burner 116 kW × 1 unit Retention Heater: Immersion Type Electric Heater 9 kW × 2 units Fuel Used: Hydrogen (city gas 13A and propane gas are also possible) Power Supply: 200V/60Hz for power, 100V for operation

Aluminum Melting Holding Furnace - Oxide Suppression Type - SMH Series

Reduces the occurrence of oxides and significantly decreases the hassle of cleaning the retention chamber. (About once every six months to a year!)

Oxide Suppression Furnace: SMH Series (Aluminum Holding Melting Furnace & Aluminum Central Melting Furnace) 【Features】 ◇ Maintains a low atmosphere temperature (below 800°C) in the holding chamber and keeps the residual oxygen concentration below 1%, utilizing the protective effect of the aluminum oxide film to slow down the progress of oxidation with a new furnace structure. ◇ Equipped with a newly developed flat frame burner that prevents direct flame contact with the molten metal in the holding chamber, ensuring no disturbance to the surface of the molten metal. Additionally, energy-saving measures are implemented through a heat exchanger utilizing exhaust gas (a hybrid version with electric heaters is also available). ◇ To achieve significant forced convection heat transfer through matching the furnace structure, a newly developed melting burner is installed, taking into account flame length, diameter, and speed. 【Expected Effects】 (Compared to our conventional furnaces) By using the oxide suppression furnace… ○ Reduction in the frequency of cleaning the holding chamber (proven to be unnecessary for up to one year) ○ Elimination of flux treatment (may be performed in the melting chamber depending on the amount of dross) ○ Improvement in molten metal quality (reduction of hydrogen gas and inclusions in the molten metal) ○ Increased yield due to reduced material loss ○ Improved fuel efficiency through energy recovery from waste heat in the holding chamber ○ Improved working environment due to reduced surface temperature of the furnace

"From Quantity to Quality" - The government's policy shifts to prioritize "energy security." Perovskite opens a new trend in domestic renewable energy.

  • NEW
  • COMPANY

The energy policy promoted by the government has finally made a significant shift from "quantity to quality." The previous large-scale introduction of renewable energy policies relied on inexpensive foreign-made panels, leading to the chaotic installation of mega-solar farms across Japan's land, which created environmental, landscape, and waste issues. As a result, Japan's energy self-sufficiency rate remains at a mere 13%, and even with the advancement of renewable energy, "import dependence" has not been resolved. In light of this reflection, the focus moving forward will be on "developing domestic energy technologies" and promoting "self-consumption type renewable energy." Among these, perovskite solar cells are lightweight, highly efficient, and offer great flexibility in installation, making them a trump card for "decentralized renewable energy" that can be easily retrofitted onto building walls and roofs. Kenneth Energy Development Co., Ltd. is developing a "selective self-consumption solar power generation system" that utilizes domestic panels and perovskite technology. Based on a track record of 83 projects nationwide and a total construction cost of 908.4 billion yen, it supports the industry's "energy independence." Now, renewable energy is entering an era of "security infrastructure."

Renewable energy stocks surge in the 'High City Trade'! The next-generation 'perovskite solar cells' open a new era of domestic power generation.

  • NEW
  • COMPANY

"Perovskite solar cells" are once again emerging at the center of Japan's renewable energy policy. Mr. Takai has proposed "nurturing domestic technology for renewable energy" as part of energy and industrial policy, causing related stocks to attract attention in the market as the "Takai trade." The background to this is Japan's long-standing dependence on foreign-made panels in its renewable energy structure. While inexpensive imports have supported proliferation, they have also left a "negative legacy" of forest development, disposal risks, and price fluctuations. If this continues, both the land and energy supply will be controlled by foreign entities—this sense of crisis is the trigger for policy change. Perovskite solar cells possess the trifecta of being lightweight, highly efficient, and low-cost, making installation in existing buildings easy. Development is progressing as a domestic technology, and it is expected to become a mainstay for self-consumption power generation in the future. Kenneth Energy Development Co., Ltd. is developing a "next-generation self-consumption solar power system" with an eye on these perovskite cells. With over 8,000 installations nationwide and expertise in subsidy support, they are turning companies' "energy independence" into reality.
