What are AGVs (Automated Guided Vehicles) / AMRs (Autonomous Mobile Robots)? Robot Bank explains! [Part 2]

Differences and Application Areas of AGVs and AMRs
AGVs and AMRs contribute to productivity improvements in the logistics and manufacturing industries. Understanding the characteristics of each allows for more effective utilization.
Differences in Movement Methods and Range
AGV (Automated Guided Vehicle)
Movement Method: Guided by magnetic tape or guide wires
Range: Within fixed routes
AMR (Autonomous Mobile Robot)
Movement Method: Generates routes autonomously and navigates while avoiding obstacles
Range: Adaptation to environments where layouts of items change
AGVs are specialized for operating on fixed routes to enhance efficiency. In contrast, AMRs utilize sensing technology to flexibly create maps in response to layout changes and obstacles, calculating the optimal paths within them. This capability to automatically collaborate with humans in transporting items is what is referred to as Human-Robot Collaboration (HRC).
