Ion Exchange Resin for Water Treatment
Ion exchange resin is a type of resin that captures ions present in water and releases its own ions in exchange, facilitating ion exchange.
Its applications are as follows (source: Wikipedia):
- Softening hard water: By exchanging calcium bicarbonate with sodium chloride or water, it transforms hard water into soft water. Devices that perform this softening are called water softeners.
- Production of pure and ultra-pure water: Ions in water are exchanged for hydrogen ions and hydroxide ions, which react to form water.
- Removal of organic acids: Utilizing the ability of weakly basic anion exchange resin to efficiently exchange and remove low-molecular-weight organic acids that are difficult to adsorb and remove with activated carbon, thereby enhancing product value.
- Removing organic acids from concentrated fruit juice to eliminate acidity.
- Removing organic acids that color raw refined sucrose and syrup, resulting in decolorization (making it white or transparent).
- Removing and purifying impurities contained in alcohol and edible/medicinal fats and oils.
- Extracting and purifying useful organic acids, organic amines, amino acids, vitamins, and antibiotics.
There are many other applications as well.
Osmo offers a variety of ion exchange resins. Please feel free to consult with us.
