Now, I would like to talk about antibacterial properties.
Antibacterial refers to suppressing or inhibiting the growth of bacteria. It does not mean killing or removing bacteria, but rather creating an environment that is difficult for bacteria to thrive in.
Products that have undergone antibacterial processing can be found in various items, including kitchen, toilet, and bath products.
One of the substances effective against bacteria is silver ions. Recently, they have also been used in bathtub cleaning detergents.
The reason silver ions have antibacterial effects is that silver ions, which are generated when oxygen dissociates, are in an unstable state (positively charged Ag+). They tend to bond with the negatively charged oxygen of microorganisms, allowing them to be taken up into the cells of microorganisms (viruses, bacteria, fungi, algae, etc.) and exhibit antibacterial properties. The absorbed silver ions bind to proteins and inhibit their functions, preventing cell division and causing the generation of reactive oxygen species due to protein dysfunction, which is believed to lead to the death of microbial cells.
