Cushion Starter The Hitachi Cushion Starter is a semiconductor application product that connects a thyristor in reverse parallel to one phase of the three-phase AC power supply of a motor, allowing for shockless starting of the motor. For floor-operated cranes, the cushion starter is used, while a primary resistor is convenient for controller operation. Primary Resistor Connected to the power side of a squirrel-cage motor, it reduces the applied voltage during acceleration, suppressing the starting torque of the motor to prevent load sway. After acceleration, the resistor is short-circuited to enter constant speed operation, functioning as a reduced voltage starter. It is equipped with tap switches for 30%, 40%, and 50% to ideally select the acceleration state according to the crane.

In IB control and DY control, if the DC power supply becomes de-energized due to some failure, the suspended load will fall, causing an accident. This switch detects the overspeed at that time, activates the main contactor to cut off the power supply, and stops the operation of the electromagnetic brake. This switch is directly connected to the pinion shaft of the gearbox to detect the rotational speed. Please do not use a V-belt connection as it is dangerous. The contacts consist of two sets of automatic reset contacts (AC220V 10A), with the standard set at the reference rotational speed (equivalent to motor synchronous speed) of 400 min-1. The operating rotational speeds are set at 540 min-1 for the first speed and 880 min-1 for the second speed (equivalent to double speed overspeed detection in inverter control). (The maximum operating rotational speed for FBJ1-AR3 is 1,000 min-1. We can also manufacture for 1,000 to 2,000 min-1, so please inquire when making a request.)

The resistor is connected to the secondary side of the motor (rotor side), and the magnitude of the resistance is adjusted by the controller to perform speed control. The standard type is open-type and uses a unique steel grid resistor. The external connection terminals are arranged on one side for ease of maintenance and inspection. The general control type is designed for the starting torque of the applicable crane motor at approximately 100%, with a usage rate of 33% (in the case of a motor usage rate of 40% ED). The CF control type, IB control type, DY control type (dynamic brake control), and VC control type are designed to suitable values for their respective speed controls. It uses a special silver alloy for the contacts and incorporates various new ideas into the operating mechanism, resulting in smooth operation. Compared to conventional drum-type roller systems, it offers faster and more reliable engagement and disengagement, significantly increasing its lifespan. The operation is performed using a crank handle, allowing for reversible motor operation and secondary resistance short-circuiting, making it suitable for smooth acceleration and deceleration control.
