The "MLT Method (No-Debris Hole Wall Method)" is a hard ground excavation method that compresses excavated soil against the hole wall using a special screw consisting of a compression wing and a mixing wing, without generating industrial waste. The special screw with a compression wing pushes the excavated soil into the hole wall, reducing the void volume ratio and allowing the hole wall to stand independently. Therefore, it is possible to reduce the amount of excavated residual soil. As the hole wall is compressed, the friction on the screw decreases, allowing most of the force to be applied to the tip bit, which efficiently cuts through bedrock and hard boulders. In the construction of PHC piles within the Chubu Electric Power substation, the method was applied because there were high-voltage lines overhead, making it impossible to use tall machinery. Additionally, it was adopted for ground improvement (columnar improvement) in the Hokuriku Shinkansen Mineyama Tunnel (East) construction. "Steel sheet pile pre-excavation" is an auxiliary work for driving steel sheet piles into hard ground. In the construction of driving revetment sheet piles within the fishing port at the mouth of the Agano River, there were old paving stones (granite) at GL-2m, and boulders up to 700mm were cut into core shapes and removed using the MLT machine. In recent years, with sudden heavy rains and typhoons causing rainfall far exceeding expectations, measures against landslides and debris flows have become urgent. "Landslide prevention pile work" involves driving steel pipe piles to suppress landslides. A landslide occurred in the Katanoe area of Sado City, spanning 100 meters in width and 200 meters in height, where 71 prevention piles were installed in two tiers. Additionally, this method was adopted in the emergency landslide work related to disasters in the Nogema area by the Nagaoka Regional Promotion Bureau of Niigata Prefecture. The MLT method (no-excavation hole wall method) is a technique that involves pre-drilling and replacing the ground to drive steel sheet piles or H-piles into hard ground. By compressing the excavated soil against the hole wall using a special screw made of a compression wing and a mixing wing, the self-support of the hole wall is achieved, allowing for rapid drilling. As a result, the amount of soil discharged during drilling is also reduced. This method is particularly effective for hard ground, including gravel, cobbles, and bedrock, achieving cost reduction and shorter construction periods compared to conventional methods.
