【Case Study】Automatically recover all crystals without exposure!

It is possible to recover the entire amount of high-priced crystals. Furthermore, production in a sealed environment is possible, which reduces the risks of contamination and exposure, and fully automated operation is also feasible.

We received an inquiry from Company O, a manufacturer of electronic materials, stating, "We want to automatically discharge crystals without exposure. Additionally, since the unit price of the product is high, we want to recover all of it." In response, we proposed the all-recovery type centrifuge "FLOWM." [About FLOWM] While conventional top-discharge types allow for complete recovery, they pose a risk of foreign matter contamination due to the open state during product retrieval. Furthermore, manual retrieval by operators is essential, which increases the operator's workload and consequently raises labor costs. On the other hand, fully automatic bottom-discharge types tend to leave residual crystals, making complete recovery difficult, and they are inferior to top-discharge types in terms of cleanability. This is where the cloth-inversion type centrifuge FLOWM comes into focus. The cloth-inversion type FLOWM eliminates the need for a scraping device that is essential in fully automatic systems, allowing for the retrieval of crystals by inverting the filter cloth, thus enabling complete recovery. Moreover, it allows for production in a sealed environment, reducing the risks of contamination and exposure, and it can operate fully automatically. It also boasts excellent cleanability, enabling cleaning in a sealed state. Additionally, the opening and closing device is standardly equipped and is designed to operate without requiring power, contributing to an oil-free operation.

We have condensed the know-how accumulated from vertical centrifuges and developed a horizontal centrifuge that meets the manufacturing processes for pharmaceuticals, food, and fine chemicals. ◎ The cake scraping method allows for the processing of a variety of products. ■ By improving the uniformity of cake thickness, vibrations caused by imbalance are eliminated, and the efficiency of cake washing is enhanced, enabling a reduction in cycle time due to high centrifugal effects. ■ A large inspection window allows for sampling after the separation process without opening the casing, preventing contamination. ■ The entire process from liquid feeding to crystal discharge is conducted in a sealed state, and crystal recovery is transported to the next process via air transport, allowing for flexible installation locations. ■ The drive unit side is completely sealed, making it possible to install the machine body within a clean room. ■ Domestic design allows for customization according to specific needs.

■I want to understand the filtration status at all times. While conducting tests with various samples, there was a request to "understand the status of filtration over time," and we adopted the research and development centrifuge "LAC." 【POINT】 ■Strobe effect of the transparent basket The upper part of the basket is transparent, and by adding a window to the casing, we can measure the liquid level and the thickness of the cake (crystals) during filtration using the strobe effect. This allows us to observe how the liquid passes through the cake layer and understand the filtration status. We proposed the bottom-opening type of KMβ dewatering bag for the chemical manufacturer who expressed a desire to easily extract crystals using a top-discharge centrifuge.

We received a request from chemical manufacturer O for an easier way to extract crystals using a top discharge centrifuge. We proposed our top discharge centrifuge KMβ with a bottom-open type basket without a flange for the dewatering bag. In a top discharge centrifuge, the operator must manually remove the solids. However, this is quite labor-intensive, and the difficulty increases if the solids are hard. Furthermore, when it comes to medium-sized machines around 42 inches, the solids to be removed can exceed 100 kg. To alleviate this heavy labor, we considered the bottom-open type for the dewatering bag.

We proposed our detachable splash guard PATAN based on the request from Company O, a pharmaceutical manufacturing company, stating, "Since we manufacture pharmaceuticals, we need to improve cleanliness, and we especially want to make the cleaning of the bottom of the basket easier." Additionally, we provided a centrifuge equipped with a casing mirror plate, casing opening and closing, and basket lift-up features to further enhance the cleanliness, which is considered important in pharmaceutical manufacturing.

We would like to automate the centrifuge, but the strength of the existing building is insufficient to install it on the second or third floors. However, we are in a situation where we cannot allocate a budget to rebuild the building, and we need a fully automatic machine that can be installed on the first floor." In response to this inquiry, we proposed and delivered the DIBUC model of a fully automatic suction-type centrifuge that can be installed on the first floor of the building. 【POINT】Suction transport that does not require a specific installation location ■ Equipment can be installed on the first floor The DIBUC, which features an upper suction discharge type, is a machine that simultaneously scrapes and sucks the cake after filtration and dewatering, transporting it to the next process. A centrifuge designed for multi-use in testing, featuring easy casing opening and closing for convenient cleaning, along with a robust interlock system.

We received an inquiry from Company K, a manufacturer that produces numerous chemicals, stating, "We would like a centrifuge for testing purposes. Since it will be used for multiple applications, it would be great to have a design that allows for easy opening and closing of the casing, is easy to clean, and has a solid interlock system." In response, we proposed and delivered a centrifuge equipped with a "casing opening and closing device (handle type)," "various interlock functions," and a "top cover lock cylinder." As a result of using our centrifuge, the time required for cleaning, which previously involved heavy lifting to remove the casing for product changes, has been reduced to just a few seconds, significantly improving time, cost, and work efficiency. Most importantly, we have heard from the operators that the workload has decreased significantly, making it quite valuable to them. Additionally, for this project, we opted for a manual opening and closing device using a reduction gear instead of hydraulic drive due to the machine's size.
