In this column, we will discuss the water drainage issues in car air conditioning evaporators and their solutions. The evaporator draws in warm, humid air and cools and dehumidifies it using the latent heat of refrigerant evaporation, which naturally leads to the generation of condensate. When the air conditioning is turned off, not all of the water is drained; some remains in the evaporator, with an approximate volume of 500cc. When the air conditioning is turned back on and airflow begins, this water is suddenly expelled, causing a phenomenon known as water spitting from the air conditioning vents.
