Woodless Rescue Deck
The 7,000 square meter deck on the rooftop of Yokohama Osanbashi has adopted a splinter-resistant and slip prevention method, which is also used for wooden decks in kindergartens, nursery schools, and elementary schools to prevent splinters and slipping.
The Woodless Rescue Deck is a water-based glass-type polysiloxane coating that forms colloidal glass for wood. It has been adopted for the splintering and slip prevention method on the rooftop deck of Yokohama's Osanbashi, effectively preventing splintering of Ipe wood through inorganic film formation (over 20 microns). It ensures a slip resistance effect of CSR 0.7 or higher and meets the standards for urban development in welfare in Tokyo. It is also used to prevent splintering and slipping on wooden decks in nursery schools, kindergartens, and elementary schools. Conventional polysiloxane resin coatings are distributed with silanes in an alcohol solvent, resulting in low viscosity and difficulty in forming inorganic films. However, by making it water-based, it has become easy to apply an inorganic coating of over 20 microns to wood. Furthermore, it can be produced at one-third the price of conventional glass-type coatings. There is also abundant test data from third-party organizations, including tests for termite resistance, slip resistance (CSR 6.0 or higher), JASS 18M307 tests, and toy safety standards (ST).
