We would like to introduce a case study of the implementation of Blickle's "swivel caster with wheel lock" by a major U.S. manufacturer of carts for storing and transporting retail products. Previously, the company used swivel casters with brakes on the wheels and swivel parts, but the fixed swivel parts frequently broke due to vibrations during transport. As a solution, the new casters adopted a wheel lock without brakes on the swivel part. As a result, the wheel lock "FIRA" significantly reduced failures and damages during transport, and the lever no longer hit the bottom plate of the cart, making locking and unlocking easier. A Czech automobile and engine manufacturer has a high noise level in their assembly plant. To transport car parts within the factory, trolleys continuously move along the concrete floor in an orderly manner. Although the floor of the hall is smooth, expansion joints made of cast iron grating are installed at regular intervals. The trolleys are equipped with wheels that leave no marks on the gray elastic solid rubber floor, but the rubber tread is relatively hard, resulting in higher rolling resistance and turning resistance, which does not provide excellent maneuverability. As a standard solution, Blickle's "ALES series" wheels, with their excellent vibration-damping properties and significant reduction in noise levels, were an ideal solution for these trolleys. A company located in southern Sweden manufactures electric transport vehicles capable of transporting super-heavy cargo up to 500 tons, some of which can also be used as unmanned transport vehicles. They developed custom wheels for the vehicle's steering, using them as drive wheels inside the transport vehicle, with the number of wheels used ranging from one to four depending on the type of cart being transported. In recent years, this company had been using wheels that did not meet quality requirements. The wheel manufacturing process was divided into two stages, sourcing the wheel centers and treads from different suppliers. Complaints arose due to quality issues, leading to increased service and replacement costs, and they were seeking high-quality finished drive wheels with a load capacity of 6 tons. This is a case study introducing the heavy-duty drive roller "STHN 620×1000/180-1000-937434" made with polyurethane tread Blickle Extrathane, implemented by a company providing solutions for the wind power industry. Until now, due to high load-bearing requirements, steel wheels were used for the turning rolls. However, because of their high rigidity, vibrations occurred when rotating the tower with the turning rolls, negatively affecting the weld joints, resulting in poor surface quality of the cylindrical curved surface and insufficient roundness. In response, engineers from Blickle closely collaborated with the company to develop a roller with a load capacity of 100 tons. As a result, installation work was significantly simplified, and by distributing the load, it became possible to reduce the wheel axle diameter, leading to substantial cost savings. We would like to introduce a case where the Blickle heavy-duty spring-loaded swivel caster 'LSDFE-POTH 200XK-ELS-FS-899642' was implemented in a manufacturer developing and producing equipment for microchip manufacturing. Since it was to be used in a cleanroom environment, it was necessary to meet special standards such as special surface treatment, static prevention, low wear, low maintenance, and ease of cleaning. Additionally, due to limited space, advanced maneuverability was required. To address this, the entire bracket was nickel-plated, the surface was finished smoothly, and the polyurethane spring was treated with a special process to prevent outgassing. A food manufacturer based in the United States was initially considering replacing their polyurethane wheels that used cast iron wheel centers. The wheels required high durability for running on concrete floors and being washed several times a day, as well as impact resistance for regularly raising and lowering the gondola to unload its contents. The company discussed proposals from multiple firms and adopted Blickle's solution. They used the hydrolysis-resistant polyurethane tread "Blickle Besthane" and high-quality nylon wheel centers, adding stainless steel ball bearings. As a result, the wheels became resistant to both high-temperature cleaning and low-temperature operations during food processing. Ultimately, they tested the wheels mounted on the gondola and received high satisfaction from the company. A company providing solutions for "mobile living" has established a new process for handling parts on a cart inside a vacuum plasma device. They wanted to continue using the existing cart with a wheel diameter of 125 millimeters, but they also wanted to avoid any issues with delicate processing caused by "external" factors such as the chemical reactions of the lubricants used in the existing casters. Initially, Blickle's experts recommended using lubricant-free heat-resistant stainless steel casters that could withstand temperatures up to 100°C for processing within the plasma device. However, this company wanted to improve mobility by using perfluoropolyether lubricant. This special lubricant has excellent properties for vacuum coating due to its heat resistance, pressure resistance, chemical resistance, and compatibility with oxygen. In tests under extreme conditions, the casters showed remarkable performance with special grease applied to the swivel parts and ball bearings. The state-owned railway company based in Bern, the capital of Switzerland, wanted to continue using efficient casters based on Blickle's RD series. However, the wheel width was narrow, and there were instances where the wheels would fall off the rails when crossing them. Therefore, after discussing the issues and width, and visiting the site to understand the situation, we collaborated with this company to design an appropriate solution and manufactured a bolt-mounted three-wheel caster with a longer wheel axle. The company requested the use of a polyurethane tread "Blickle Softhane" with a heavy load specification for the middle wheel, which has low rolling resistance. For the outer two wheels of this wheel (ALST series), we used the Blickle Softhane-equipped wheels (RD series) with a two-layer solid rubber tire that has been widely used by SBB and has undergone sufficient trials.
