Transom, kumiko transom

The brilliance of light and shadow created by Japanese woodworking techniques.

A "ranma" is a type of decorative feature in traditional Japanese rooms that serves the functions of ventilation, air circulation, and decoration within partition walls. Until the Edo period, "ranma" was only permitted for use by the samurai class and a few wealthy merchants, making it a symbol of authority in addition to its decorative purpose. Even after entering the Showa era, there was a trend to incorporate luxurious carved ranma into two-room connected Japanese spaces. After the war, as Western-style and new Japanese-style houses increased, there was a rise in homes featuring simple kumiko ranma within mixed Japanese-Western spaces. Tani Hata offers 18 different design patterns for kumiko ranma suitable for Japanese rooms, allowing you to choose according to the image of your space. (All products are made to order, so custom dimensions are also accepted.)

[Case Study of Problem Solving] Production of Shoji Transoms

Introducing examples of shoji and transom production. Leave it to us for all your needs in fixtures and furniture.

Mokoubi Co., Ltd. and Hattori are engaged in the custom creation of fittings, furniture, and wooden products, as well as maintenance of fittings. We will introduce examples of how we have solved our clients' problems with photos. We received a request to create a transom for a two-room Japanese-style room, as the open transom area allowed cold air to flow through, and the budget was not very high. To meet the request for preventing airflow and desiring maintenance-free options, we produced a shoji transom using cedar wood. The lattice is double-sided, with a 2mm thick Warlon plate sandwiched in between. [Case Study] ■ Request - To block the transom area so that air does not flow through - To create it with a low budget and maintenance-free ■ Proposal - Production of a shoji transom using cedar wood - The lattice is double-sided, with a 2mm thick Warlon plate sandwiched in between *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.

What is a ranma? A thorough explanation of its meaning, types, prices, and key points for introduction.

Introducing the benefits and considerations of incorporating transoms, as well as architectural design and practical examples!

In architectural spaces, "ranma" is not just a decoration. As a traditional fixture that enhances the space with light and shadow while maintaining daylight and ventilation, it is being reevaluated in today's modern Japanese homes and renovations. However, during the design, ordering, and construction phases, various considerations such as insulation, airtightness, and fitting adjustments come into play. This article will start by explaining "what ranma is," followed by a comprehensive discussion of the characteristics of different types, such as carvings, openwork, kumiko, and shoji, as well as price ranges, possibilities for remaking and purchasing second-hand, design examples, and key points during ordering and construction. Additionally, it will touch upon the advantages of Sakumiru, which supports core business functions for construction companies (such as estimating, scheduling, customer, and billing management), providing practical information that can be immediately useful. *For detailed content of the article, please refer to the PDF document.
