Testing the tendency of segregation in fluidized powders!

The tendency of segregation of fluidized powder particles due to air flow can be tested with a sample size of approximately 10 mL. In a fluidized bed, fine particles tend to remain at the top for a long time due to the air they contain, while larger, denser coarse particles tend to gather at the bottom, leading to segregation. After mixing with a mixer, during filling and discharge, or when transporting by air, the likelihood of segregation due to fluidization increases.

The tendency of segregation due to sifting can be tested with a sample size of approximately 50 mL. Segregation due to sifting refers to the most common segregation phenomenon where smaller particles pass through the gaps between larger particles. This mechanism is most likely to occur when a bulk material is composed of particles of different sizes and there is movement between the particles, such as during processes like filling or transfer.

The chemical properties of the battery, the composition of the electrodes, and the type of battery cell can also be investigated in cell development using the iso-BTC. Through thermal mapping (multi-point temperature measurement), users can identify areas of the battery that generate larger amounts of thermal energy, which are highlighted. In addition to characterizing the thermal behavior of battery cells at various temperatures and (discharge) charge rates, this information can be used to develop effective and targeted thermal management strategies within battery modules and packs.
