The "Good Design Award" is Japan's only comprehensive design evaluation and recommendation initiative that inherits the "Good Design Product Selection System" (commonly known as the G-Mark system), established by the former Ministry of International Trade and Industry in 1957. Its purpose is not merely to compete for the beauty of objects but to discover and widely communicate designs that enhance industrial development and the quality of life across various fields. The FZ50 was awarded not only for its functionality but also for its design appeal among numerous submitted products. Evaluation comments from the judges: The damage caused by floods is becoming increasingly serious day by day. In low-lying urban areas, rainwater rushes in all at once, entering underground spaces and interiors, causing significant damage. Traditionally, attempts to prevent flooding have been made using sandbags, but they have not shown significant effectiveness. This design is structurally durable and stable, and its easy connectivity allows for efficient blocking of rainwater. It is a timely design that is much needed.
