This device can instantly detect and recognize the materials of various waste plastic containers, allowing for easy sorting (separation) of only the containers made of the desired material. ■Overview of the Principle By irradiating plastics with near-infrared (NIR) light, the device utilizes the fact that the absorption of wavelengths differs depending on the material, enabling instant detection of the material of the target object. Additionally, it detects the position of the target object moving at high speed (2 m/s) on a conveyor belt and uses an air nozzle located at the end of the conveyor to blow away and separate (remove) only the desired object.
