Sugar-modified fluorescent markers for identifying macrophage polarization [Saitama University]
A novel marker for highly sensitive identification of polarized macrophages.
We have developed a mannose-modified fluorescent marker that binds to C-type lectin receptors. By using this fluorescent marker, we can sensitively identify polarized M2 macrophages. The polarization of macrophages is important for diagnosing pathological conditions, and this method allows for simple and highly sensitive detection compared to traditional methods that use multiple antibodies.

[Demonstration Experiment] Macrophages induced to polarize experimentally were labeled with each marker and measured using a flow cytometer. As a result, the M1/M2 of macrophages with antibodies (fluorescent labeling) had different waveforms, making separation difficult. However, with the developed product (mannose-modified RFP), the M1/M2 of macrophages showed separated waveforms, allowing for identification.
