Thoughts on the GHG emissions trading of international transportation contributing to the SDGs in logistics.
Introduction to emissions trading related to the reduction of greenhouse gases in logistics services.
I have heard that in Japan, in some industries such as automotive, there is a demand for decarbonization efforts due to requests from Tier 1 companies. Additionally, it seems that efforts towards decarbonization and information disclosure can also become conditions for bidding. Furthermore, there is an increasing number of logistics services that claim to be carbon neutral. This time, I would like to share some thoughts on the reduction of greenhouse gases (hereafter referred to as "GHG") that are required in such corporate activities, particularly regarding GHG Protocol Scope 3 Category 4 and 9 (transportation, storage, and handling) related to logistics activities involved in trade (international transport) and the trading of emission rights. Here, the term "emission rights" refers to the rights to claim how much GHG emissions have been reduced compared to fossil fuels in international transport, and "emission trading" can be understood as the buying and selling of those rights with "ownership (property rights)." *You can view the detailed content of the blog through the related links.
