Delivery Title: Development of a "Slim Trench" with Indicator Function Furukawa Electric Co., Ltd. has developed a surface-mounted cable trench (indicator trench and flat trench) with an indicator function that can be installed on road surfaces. ■Background■ In Japan today, discussions are underway for smart cities aimed at optimizing infrastructure and facilities to enhance convenience and comfort. In smart cities, various electronic devices are installed throughout the urban area, while communication and power cables, as well as water and gas lines, are buried beneath the pavement. One of the challenges in smart cities is to install new equipment while avoiding these existing utilities and ensuring cable routes. ■Product Features■ This product has a thickness of 55.5mm, which is about half the thickness compared to the minimum size class of 130mm for concrete cable trenches, allowing for a reduction in the amount of ground excavation required. This thickness is comparable to paving materials such as interlocking blocks and tactile paving blocks, enabling replacement with existing paving materials without significant changes to the foundation. Additionally, by integrating the indicator and cable conduit, simple installation is made possible.
