AppGuard, developed by the U.S. Department of Defense (Pentagon), is an endpoint cybersecurity tool designed to protect computers and servers, and has surpassed approximately 20,000 domestic companies. Born in America and raised in Japan, it is adopted by various sectors including government, public infrastructure, high-tech companies, banks, insurance companies, universities, hospitals, small and medium-sized enterprises, and individuals. The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry will start a system to rate companies' cybersecurity measures in the fiscal year 2025, aiming to enhance the response capabilities against cyberattacks through a corporate rating system. Companies with low ratings may face avoidance in transactions. The measures of each company will be evaluated on a five-level scale, allowing partners to understand the extent of their cybersecurity measures. As attacks targeting weaknesses in the supply chain increase, the goal is to enhance response capabilities across the entire industry. Levels 1 and 2 refer to the minimum measures required of companies. The expected standards include: 1. Regular software updates, 2. Access restrictions to confidential information, and 3. Response procedures in the event of information leaks. Levels 3 and 4 are aimed at companies that play a part in the supply chain, and standards such as establishing a robust information management system will be considered. Up to Level 3, companies will be able to confirm their own situation and self-declare their response capabilities. Levels 4 and 5 will require a system for third-party certification of their measures from external certification organizations.
