Stainless steel is often said to peel off quickly even after painting, but if done with the appropriate painting method, there is no need to worry about it peeling.
"About Stainless Steel" It is an alloy primarily composed of iron (Fe) and chromium (Cr). Chromium combines with oxygen to create a "passivation film" known as chromium oxide. Because it is covered by this passivation film, it has higher corrosion resistance and is less prone to rust compared to ordinary carbon steel. "Reasons Why Stainless Steel Paint Peels Easily" - Smooth Surface The surface of stainless steel is very smooth, so the paint cannot adhere sufficiently and ends up peeling off. - Presence of Chromium Oxide The chromium contained in stainless steel combines with oxygen to form chromium oxide, which protects the surface with a thin film. This film hinders the adhesion of the paint, making it more likely to peel off. 【Types of Metal Coatings and How to Choose】 https://www.nc-net.or.jp/company/98405/product/detail/196154/ 【List of Common Coating Defects: Causes and Countermeasures】 https://www.nc-net.or.jp/company/98405/product/detail/192232/

basic information
"Stainless Steel Coating Method" 1. Surface Cleaning This is a necessary process for all materials, not just metals and non-ferrous metals. It reliably removes oils, dirt, and debris that have adhered to the surface. The surface is cleaned by wiping with organic solvents, detergents, or degreasers. 2. Surface Preparation This surface preparation is a crucial process that addresses two reasons for peeling. The first is that etching treatment is necessary to remove the chromium oxide that protects the surface. Etching can be done using chemicals to dissolve the surface (a chemical method) or by using abrasives in a blast to physically grind the surface (a physical method). The second is that polishing is required to create fine scratches on the smooth surface to improve adhesion. If etching is done with blasting, the surface has already changed to one that allows for better paint adhesion, making further polishing unnecessary. However, if etching is done with chemicals, the surface must be polished with a wire brush or sandpaper. 3. Paint Since stainless steel has low paint adhesion, there is a high possibility that regular paint will peel off quickly. By applying a primer specifically designed for stainless steel, the paint adheres firmly to the surface and does not peel off.
