On November 25, 2023, a complex facility combining a library, community exchange center, and child-rearing exchange center opened in Ayabe City, Kyoto Prefecture. Nitto Seiko Co., a local company, donated a train-shaped picture book storage shelf to the Ayabe City Library, which has been newly renovated and reopened within Ayaterrace. Tokihasangyo assisted in the design, planning, and manufacturing of this train-shaped picture book storage shelf.

【 Design 】 We started with the idea of embodying the feelings of Nitto Seiko, which are to be loved by the local community and to allow children to enjoy and interact with picture books. After several meetings with Nitto Seiko and Ayabe City Library, we decided to adopt motifs of animals and locomotives that children love. We realized the ideal expression using our technology "F3," which enables free-form processing of wooden panels and printing on the panel surface. 【 Design and Technology 】 The design and planning focus on the library, which is used by many children. To ensure safety, we have applied our unique technology "Farnu" to the partition boards and the animal shapes that children may touch. Due to its properties, Farnu also serves as a cushioning material, preventing the risk of injury from collisions and protecting against sharp edges when storing picture books. Additionally, while it is common for the edges of furniture to peel or splinter over time, Farnu's unique molding method makes it resistant to peeling and damage, ensuring safety and longevity.
