"Biotop Sand" is a black granular material made from natural minerals such as silica sand (quartz sand) that have been carbonized. This carbonized material contains functional groups such as phenolic and carboxyl groups. These functional groups have electrostatic adsorption effects on harmful substances in the air, such as ammonia and formaldehyde, as well as cationic substances and organic matter that contribute to eutrophication in water. Additionally, the zeta potential in a natural environment ranges from -30 to -40 mV, suggesting a high capacity for the adsorption of nitrogen-based organic substances and the activation and colonization of microorganisms.
