All instruments experience aging degradation due to mechanical, chemical, installation, operational environment, and other factors, leading to deviations in measurement values and accuracy. While it is not possible to prevent aging degradation, early detection can be achieved through calibration. What is the difference between calibration and verification? And when should adjustments be made? ◆ Calibration refers to the process of comparing the measurement results of a calibrated standard instrument, certified by national or international standards, with those of the test instrument being calibrated, to determine the extent of any instrument deviation. If the calibration test results fall within the product specifications, a calibration certificate is issued along with the test report. ◆ Verification refers to the process of confirming whether the instrument deviation of the reference measuring instrument is within the range specified by public institutions or other standards, and making a pass/fail judgment. Both calibration and verification aim to assess the quality of the product based on the displayed values. Modifications to the measuring instrument itself are not permitted. ◆ Adjustments allow for modifications to the measuring instrument to keep the detected instrument deviation within the accuracy range. Adjustments are made when the instrument is deemed out of specification after calibration, and the instrument is then adjusted to fall within the accuracy range before re-calibration is conducted.
