Tohoku University Technology: Ultra-high resolution & sensitivity electron spectrometer: T20-2977
Next-generation electron spectrometer technology that simultaneously satisfies the trade-off conditions among energy resolution, instrument sensitivity, and instrument size.
Electron spectroscopy is a method to study the electronic structure of matter by irradiating it with energy beams such as light or electrons, and analyzing the energy of electrons emitted from the material. Various types of electron spectrometers—such as time-of-flight and electrostatic deflection types—are used depending on the energy of the electrons, but the energy resolution achievable with current instruments has its limits. This technology is a relatively compact electron spectrometer based on an entirely new measurement principle. Its greatest feature is that it enables measurement with an ultra-high energy resolution far surpassing the world standard—regardless of the type of energy beam or the magnitude of electron energy—while maintaining high instrument sensitivity.

The revenue generated from technology transfer is reinvested into universities and researchers as new research funding, which is used to create further research outcomes. To ensure the smooth operation of this cycle, known as the "Intellectual Creation Cycle," we will actively promote technology transfer. The types of seeds we handle include patents, know-how, databases, and programs. We have established a collaborative framework by concluding basic technology transfer agreements with the following universities (as of April 1, 2026): - Tohoku University - Hirosaki University - Iwate University - Akita University - Fukushima University - Yamagata University - Tohoku Gakuin University - Iwate Medical University - Fukushima Medical University - Aizu University - Miyagi University - Hokkaido University - Muroran Institute of Technology - Showa Medical University - Asahikawa Medical University
