For purity control during hydrogen purification by water electrolysis and performance evaluation of permeable membranes!

Therefore, by measuring the oxygen concentration immediately after the electrolytic cell, we can evaluate the performance of the permeable membrane and manage the purity of hydrogen. Since oxygen in hydrogen can lead to a high dew point and is prone to condensation, expertise such as drain removal is necessary for measurement. Utilizing our experience in measuring oxygen concentration and dew point, we developed the product as a control panel that includes a sampling system. Proton conductors are generally used in hydrogen permeable membranes. These are polymer membranes with a solid polymer structure. They are similar to the proton type membranes commonly used in fuel cells, which include alkaline, proton, and solid oxide types. In separation membranes, a phenomenon occurs where oxygen ions (O2-) can permeate from the cathode to the anode due to the performance of the separation membrane. Therefore, it is important to measure the oxygen concentration in parts per million (PPM). Conversely, there is also a phenomenon where hydrogen ions (H+) backflow from the cathode to the anode. If the proton separation membrane continues to be used, embrittlement occurs and degradation happens, which intensifies the aforementioned trends. Such interfacial research is being conducted in the field of tribology.
