The "TYPE 93FR" is a non-contact design carbon bush designed to protect the dry gas seal from the intrusion of bearing oil. The segments have a special design that prevents oil intrusion. Separation gas (usually nitrogen or air) is injected between the two segmented bushes, effectively forming a pressure barrier between the bearing and the dry gas cavity.
