After 19 months of installation, all red rust has turned to black rust! As long as the building exists, the air conditioning chilled and hot water pipes are usable.
The air conditioning chilled and hot water piping installed throughout the famous bookstore building in Shinjuku was at risk of deterioration due to red rust. In 2005, 41 years after its construction, a "NMR Pipe Protector" was installed on the 200A diameter piping before the heat source pump to prevent the deterioration of red rust inside the piping and convert it to black rust, thereby extending the piping's lifespan to match that of the building. In April 2007, 19 months after installation, the branch pipe with a diameter of 32A from the air conditioning chilled and hot water piping was removed to check the state of red rust inside the piping, and it was found that all the red rust had been converted to black rust.
