A Magnum has been adopted for the lubrication line of a 750 kW generator's gearbox located in Sweden. A Magnom Clear 5" was installed downstream of an existing 10-micron filter, and after six months of normal operation, when the internal core was removed, a significant amount of contamination, including metal wear particles as small as 0.2 microns, was found, surprising those involved. Such fine metal contamination can trigger a wear chain in the gearbox, demonstrating the performance of the Magnum filter, which can efficiently and safely remove it.
