It is a molded sintered product primarily composed of samarium and cobalt, available in two material types: 1-5 series (SmCo5) and 2-17 series (Sm2Co17). It possesses very strong magnetic force, second only to neodymium, and has heat resistance. However, due to its brittleness, care must be taken to avoid chipping and cracking during handling. Additionally, it is resistant to rust, so surface treatment is not necessary, but surface treatments such as plating can be applied to prevent chipping. Compared to neodymium magnets, the magnetic force is slightly reduced (about 1/4 lower), but it is still a very powerful magnet. The change in magnetic force with temperature is relatively small, making it suitable for applications that require temperature stability and high-temperature use.
