In the context of board design, it is necessary to prepare a greater number of options to flexibly respond to customer requests and unexpected troubles during the design and manufacturing process. This article introduces a case where design changes were made to address issues with the arrival of components.

The existing panel may contain parts that are no longer in production or are difficult to obtain. In this case, when updating panel B (existing) as shown in Figure 1, we designed it to meet the customer's requests to "install a relay terminal panel between panel A and panel B" and to "replace the hard-to-obtain special connector with as many standard parts as possible" (Figure 2). However, it was found that there was a delay in the arrival of the special connector (female) that was kept to a minimum for necessary use, which would affect production within the delivery deadline. Therefore, we changed to use a special connector (male) that was in stock at our company for the new connector cable instead of the special connector (female) (Figure 3). This allowed us to connect panel A to the relay terminal panel by combining it with the existing cable that was scheduled for removal, enabling us to produce and deliver a product that met the requirements by the deadline.
