■Details of Processing Technology Nitriding is a technique that involves heating the target steel components and diffusing nitrogen from the surface to form a nitrogen compound layer, thereby increasing hardness. There are various methods of nitriding, including gas nitriding, salt bath nitriding, and gas soft nitriding. Ion nitriding treatment (plasma nitriding) uses glow discharge to collide nitrogen ions with the surface of the target object for nitriding. The nitrides generated from the reaction diffuse into the material, resulting in modification. A further developed technique from ion nitriding treatment (plasma nitriding) is radical nitriding. By controlling the output of the plasma, it efficiently utilizes radicals (free radicals) with high nitriding action for modification. Unlike gas nitriding, it allows for nitriding without the formation of a compound layer, resulting in superior dimensional accuracy.
