The most important thing when creating a drum practice room is to ensure that it does not disturb external facilities and to create a comfortable performance space.

In recent years, there have been many complaints regarding drum and other instrument practice rooms that were designed and constructed without consulting experts, and a common issue among these complaints is the lack of vibration control. Particularly for percussion instruments, since the volume of the sound produced cannot be adjusted, proper design and construction by specialized contractors is necessary. At Environmental Space, we design and construct instrument performance spaces tailored to our clients' needs, ranging from drum practice rooms for private residences to professional practice studios, ensuring they are user-friendly and comfortable. Soundproofing is considered from both the perspective of sound leaking from the room to the outside and sound entering from the outside, but in the case of drum practice rooms, it is crucial to ensure that the sound and vibrations produced indoors do not disturb adjacent rooms or neighbors. The soundproofing performance of a room is evaluated using a rating called the D-value, and the relationship between the D-value and perceived sound is roughly as shown in the table below. This evaluation applies to general residences, and for drum practice rooms, it tends to be about two ranks lower. The required soundproofing performance varies depending on the usage conditions of adjacent rooms, but a target value of around D-75 to D-65 is ideal. Especially in multi-unit housing, even faint sounds from percussion instruments can lead to complaints, making adequate measures essential.
