[All Japan Construction Award - Selected in the Road Division] Restoration Case of the Civil Engineering Heritage "Omiya Bridge" in Saijo City, Ehime Prefecture
The journey of the Omiya Bridge revitalization undertaken with the local community! It was selected for the 2020 All Construction Award (Road Division) as a bridge repair project using the IPH method.
The civil engineering heritage "Omiya Bridge" in Saijo City, Ehime Prefecture, completed in 1927 (Showa 2), was approaching the end of its lifespan as a bridge after nearly 90 years. The Omiya Bridge, deemed a dangerous bridge (health assessment category "III," with internal cavities and leakage), underwent repair work using the "IPH method." By reinforcing the hollow parts inside the concrete with resin, the strength recovery work was completed without dismantling the original structure. Additionally, the construction period was shorter than that of a "replacement," taking into consideration the surrounding environment, and with the cooperation of local government and universities, the work was able to proceed smoothly. *It has been confirmed through ultrasonic surveys by Ehime University that the structural strength has been restored. 【Case Overview】 ■Location: Civil Engineering Heritage Omiya Bridge ■Method Used: IPH Method ■Award Information: 2020 All Construction Award, Road Division ■Construction Company: Oono Painting Co., Ltd. basic information
【Case Overview】 ■Challenges when considering "replacement" ・The existing bridge will be closed for nearly a year during the removal and construction of the new bridge abutments. ・The construction site is in a steep area, making it difficult to transport heavy machinery and materials for surface covering. ■Challenges when considering a method to chip away and repair damaged areas ・There is a possibility that the bridge itself could collapse. ■Advantages of adopting the IPH method ・It can shorten the closure time of the bridge and also reduce the construction period. ・It is highly transportable as it only uses an injector and resin. ・Economic efficiency and safety. *For more details, please check the video. *For more information, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.
