This analytical method was utilized in the design of coating dies for optical fibers. At that time, we were coating at speeds of over 1000m/min. Currently, we are coating at even higher speeds. The material used is UV-curable resin, but this analytical method can also be applied to other resins. For example, it can be applied to the design of extrusion dies (the die section of crossheads). We also applied this analysis to the design of dies for coating tape substrates. The flow of the coating fluid when the substrate is moving is governed by the flow field generated by the movement of the substrate and the flow field caused by the pressure from the wedge shape.
