Tunnel boring machines are amazing. The gigantic drill head, exceeding 16 meters, robustly penetrates rock and soil. In such excavation processes, the machine and its components are subjected to incredible stress from impacts, vibrations, and extreme temperature changes. To withstand these harsh demands, each component must be extremely robust. To further optimize the work process, it is essential to ensure data is reliably isolated. The new Industry 4.0 features provide users with unique advantages by offering additional information about the process, in addition to pure process data (position/speed). Status and statistical data are recorded and processed during operation to better understand the processes within the application.
