The performance itself is not particularly high, but it refers to plastics (thermoplastics) that are inexpensive and used/consumed in large quantities as everyday items. It is characterized by a relatively simple structure (composed only of carbon in the main chain), heat resistance of about 100°C, and the ability to change shape freely. It accounts for about 80% of Japan's plastic production. Types of general-purpose plastics include: PVC (polyvinyl chloride), PS (polystyrene), ABS, AS, PMMA (acrylic), PE (polyethylene), PP (polypropylene), etc. The representative general-purpose plastics that are particularly produced and consumed in large quantities are commonly referred to as the "five major general-purpose plastics": PVC, PE (HD-PE, LD-PE), PS, and PP.
