The "Douglas Fir" is a large tree that is widely distributed in the southern half of British Columbia and extends its habitat to the southwestern part of Alberta in Canada. The sapwood is characterized by its light color and narrow width. In contrast, the heartwood ranges from yellowish to reddish-brown, and since the autumn wood is darker than the spring wood, it forms a distinct band, which appears as a clear grain pattern when sawn thinly.
