We would like to introduce an example of the ceiling in the underground station being renovated with a concept of "returning to the original design at the time of station construction," using a natural limestone-like material "Limestone (non-combustible specification)." 【Project】 [Renovation] Umeda Station North Mid-Level (Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture) ◇ Construction Date: February 2019 ◇ Construction Area: 1,294 m² ◇ Base Material: Aluminum Spandrel 【Customer's Challenges and Requests】 ◆ The ceiling in the subway station must be made of non-combustible materials. ◆ Due to the short working hours between the last train and the first train, a construction method that allows for a short construction period is desirable. ◆ The sterile ceiling of the busy station corridor should be designed to have a sense of luxury. 【Adoption Background】 ◇ The concept of this renovation work is to return to the design at the time of completion. ◇ Given that the work is on the ceiling of the subway station, we proposed aluminum spandrel combined with stone-like products (Limestone: non-combustible material specification). The adhesion strength to aluminum materials was confirmed through preliminary testing. 【Selection Points】 ◆ Since it is within the station, construction using non-combustible materials is possible, considering safety. ◆ The aluminum spandrel, which was pre-fabricated in the factory, was installed on-site to shorten the working time. ◆ By remodeling the ceiling into an arch shape, the sense of pressure in the corridor is alleviated, resulting in a design with a sense of luxury.
