Brazing carbide to castings improves wear resistance.
Castings are suitable for mass production of complex shapes, but due to the inability to perform heat treatment, wear resistance is a challenge. By brazing cemented carbide onto friction parts, wear resistance can be improved. For example, casting materials such as gray cast iron (FC material) are typically selected for their high degree of freedom in shaping and cost reduction during mass production. Even with such casting base materials, when strength and wear resistance are required, ductile cast iron (FCD material) may be used. Furthermore, if the wear environment at the action point of a tool made from FCD material is particularly harsh, enhancing the tool's effectiveness can be achieved by making only that specific action point from cemented carbide. In such cases, the brazing processing technology of castings and cemented carbide is utilized. However, there are also technical challenges associated with brazing cemented carbide to castings.
