The sulfonic acid group exhibits ion exchange capacity and hydrophilicity, imparting new functions to existing polymer compounds. A novel sulfonation method for aromatic polymers has been developed, successfully achieving a high sulfonic acid group introduction rate while preventing a decrease in molecular weight.
