Yupo Corporation is a joint venture established in May 1969 with the aim of commercializing petrochemical synthetic paper, through equal investment by Oji Paper Co., Ltd. (now Oji Holdings Corporation) and Mitsubishi Oil Co., Ltd. (now Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation). In 1971, the first production line was completed, followed by the second in 1986 and the third in 1990 at the Kashima Plant (Kamis, Ibaraki Prefecture), establishing a stable supply system for both domestic and international markets. Subsequently, in September 1998, a subsidiary was established in Chesapeake, Virginia, USA, for production and sales, further enhancing the global stable supply system.
