On commercial facility floors! Seal Hard Premium ◎ Case Studies ◎ Polishing Specifications
LATICRETE International, Inc. (Connecticut, USA)
The floor of the Super Center PLANT Kurobe store was constructed with "Seal Hard Premium." It features a combination of good appearance, high durability, and low maintenance.
The supercenter PLANT Kurobe store (Toyama Prefecture), which opened in October 2020, has been constructed using Seal Hard Premium. Since Seal Hard has been adopted for store floors by PLANT for over 20 years due to its lower construction and maintenance costs compared to P tiles, recent stores have shifted to long sheet vinyl and P tiles for reasons such as lack of color and cleanliness. The reason Seal Hard was adopted again for the Kurobe store is due to advancements in polished concrete technology, which allows for the creation of clean-looking floors. This project was undertaken by our construction department as the main contractor, with a focus on concrete quality from the very beginning. During the pouring process, we used "Moacrite: fluidizing without adding water" and "E-CON: pouring aid" to reduce trowel marks and cracks, aiming for a uniform appearance. At the finishing stage, we performed "SSP-100: joint filling" to prevent debris accumulation and corner chipping in the joints. The PLANT Kurobe store boasts one of the highest levels of concrete flooring in commercial facilities in Japan. Seal Hard contributes to both cost efficiency and maintenance while achieving a beautiful floor finish. We hope you will visit the PLANT Kurobe store.

basic information
Seal Hard is a colorless, odorless, and environmentally friendly concrete surface hardener that is non-polluting. It is a colorless, transparent liquid primarily composed of sodium silicate, which penetrates the surface of the concrete after application and reacts chemically with the concrete components to produce a glass-like substance on the surface. This chemical reaction continues over time with regular water washing that replenishes moisture. Concrete reinforced with Seal Hard becomes more beautiful and glossy with use and regular water washing over the years. Even when a gloss develops, it does not become slippery. Seal Hard Premium is widely used in commercial facilities and public property floors. In addition to the commercial facility examples introduced this time, there are numerous achievements in public and private properties, including art museums, museums, and logistics centers. The application of Seal Hard is done in two parts. The first application can be done after the eighth day following concrete placement, and the second application can be done at least 14 days after the first application. Due to the inclusion of polishing in the specifications, the surface is finished to be smooth and glossy from the time of completion, and maintenance is very easy. It results in a glossy floor while retaining the texture of the concrete.

Applications/Examples of results
<<Seal Hard Premium>> Recommended for commercial facilities, art museums, and museums that traditionally used P tiles, long sheets, or ceramic tiles due to its polished concrete finish with a glossy appearance. It is also recommended for logistics centers, warehouses, factories, and situations where a low-maintenance, clean-looking floor is desired while keeping the concrete finish as is. Adoption Records (in no particular order, titles omitted) ◆ Logistics Facilities Mediseo, Atoru, Evalus, PALTAC, Hokushou, Seikousha, Yaoko ◆ Commercial Facilities PLANT Kurobe Store, Paul Smith Ginza Store, Phoenix Sea, Shinmai Media Garden ◆ Public Facilities Hirosaki Brick Warehouse Museum, Kanazawa 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Hitachi City New City Hall, University of Tokyo Dormitory, Aomori New Athletics Stadium, Taga Town Community Center, Minna no Mori Gifu Media Cosmos Note: When pouring concrete, please smooth it with a mechanical trowel. Trowel marks and color variations will affect the final appearance, so we recommend using E-CON or Moar Concrete, etc. It is also advisable to provide cutter joints at 4-5 meter intervals to prevent cracking. For processing the cutter joints, we recommend the joint filling method SSP-100.
Detailed information
-
【Concrete Placement】 Using Moa Concrete & E-CON. By adding Moa Concrete to ready-mixed concrete, the fluidity during concrete placement is increased, and the reduction of bleeding water results in stronger concrete. Using E-CON during placement helps reduce cracking that occurs immediately after curing due to evaporation suppression. Both products offer good cost performance and are highly recommended for consideration during finishing.
-
[E-CON] Suppresses evaporation during concrete pouring, delays curing, and reduces plastic cracking. Approximately 1,000 to 2,000 m² can be applied per can. Samples are also available.
-
【Concrete Pit Cover Construction】 The concrete pit cover was finished to the same standard as the floor of the sales area. When different machines are used, the weight and rotation speed change, requiring skill to achieve a similar finish. Seeing such detailed work makes me appreciate the craftsmanship.
-
[After the concrete pit cover installation] We have tried to match the glossiness as closely as possible. When you visit the store, please take a look at these fine details of craftsmanship.

【Joint Filling】 A floor that has only been cut will accumulate dirt in the joints. Cleaning out the dirt from joints that are several meters long is truly a struggle. Additionally, corner chipping occurs, and the wobbling of wheels, such as those on carts, becomes noticeable. Joint filling resolves these issues. SSP-100 is a polyurea resin made in the USA, applied through a specialized machine. It is a micro-elastic filler that follows the subtle movements of the joints while maintaining a certain hardness, thereby reducing the impact on the joint corners when wheels pass over them. Considering future maintenance, I believe joint filling is indeed a very effective measure.

【Completion Photos】 This is a photo taken immediately after the floor finishing. The gloss is so pronounced that the lighting reflects sharply. With just one finishing technique, the design quality of concrete can be elevated to this level. Many commercial facilities in the United States feature this type of glossy concrete finish.
