It is used to evaluate the roughness of metal surfaces treated with grit blast and shot blast.
The comparison plate is divided into four stages of different roughness, and the roughness of the inspection target surface is visually or magnifying glass confirmed through the hole in the center of the comparison plate to evaluate the blast roughness. It is used for the evaluation method of blast surfaces specified in ISO 8503-1 and JIS Z 0313. There are comparison plates for grit blasting (G) and shot blasting (S). The surface roughness for grit blasting is 25, 60, 100, and 150 μm, while for shot blasting, it is 25, 40, 70, and 100 μm.

We will prepare a comparison plate without damage according to the shape of the abrasive material used in the blasting process. Under uniform lighting, we will closely attach the comparison plate to the blasted surface of the inspection target. We will examine whether the roughness of the inspection target surface, visible through the hole in the center of the comparison plate, falls between any of the two stages of roughness categorized into four stages on the comparison plate. If the inspection target surface is between the first and second stages or is equivalent to the second stage of the coarser categories on the comparison plate, it will be evaluated as "rough"; if it is between the second and third stages or is equivalent to the third stage, it will be evaluated as "medium"; and if it is between the third and fourth stages or is equivalent to the fourth stage, it will be evaluated as "fine."
