External temperature range: -60 to +180°C Protection level: IP68
Intertek today offers the most comprehensive range of explosion-proof heaters in the market, holding various global certifications such as IECEx, ATEX, CSAC US, TR CU (formerly GOST), and PESO. Our heaters are designed for flexibility in system configuration. They are certified by numerous international standards and are available worldwide in the form of individual heaters or enclosure configurations, significantly reducing design, system configuration, and maintenance costs. The operation of the heaters has been independently verified under conditions as low as -60°C, even in extremely cold environments. This facilitates the design of equipment installed in polar environments. If only simple protection against freezing is required, we recommend heaters with a TS thermostat installed within the power supply cable, which operate individually without the need for control and are cost-effective. In the event that precise temperature control is necessary, or if the heater must operate and stop continuously, a contact thermostat can be adjusted to approximately 2°C and is more effective at sensing air temperature. Alarm signals can also be provided.

basic information
There are two types of explosion-proof heaters: electric convection heaters and electric conduction heaters. Electric convection heater: Also known as space heaters, this method heats by allowing warm air to rise and circulate. The fins increase the surface area in contact with the air, enabling warm air to rise from the bottom to the top. Electric conduction heater: This method directly transfers heat by touching the manifold or metal parts. It is used when the enclosure is either small or, conversely, large. The flat surface promotes heat conduction by maximizing the area in contact. The hybrid type has a flat bottom with fins, making it usable for either method. - Controller included with the heater - Digital controller - Mechanical controller For areas without electricity, cooling and heating using water or steam is entirely possible. Simulations can be provided if necessary. For more details, please refer to the product page on our website. https://www.intertec.info/en/products/heating/explosion-proof-heaters.php

INTERTEC's explosion-proof heaters represent one of the world's most extensive lineups of Ex-rated heating systems.Designed for use in hazardous locations such as oil, chemical, and gas plants, these heaters protect instrumentation and control panels against freezing, condensation, and low-temperature damage. The products hold major international Ex certifications including ATEX / IECEx, EAC / EAC Ex, CSA (NRTL, USA & Canada), CCC (China), KC (Korea), and INMETRO (Brazil), making them suitable for globally deployed plant facilities. With an operating temperature range of -60°C to +180°C and an IP68 fully potted construction, they deliver outstanding reliability in the harshest environments. The modular design allows adaptation to a wide variety of special applications, including gas and dust hazardous areas.

A safe, energy-efficient heating method that can be installed wherever a small flat surface is available. INTERTEC offers two heating principles: electric convection (heating via air circulation) and electric conduction (heating through direct contact with equipment). Convection heaters circulate warm air inside an enclosure to maintain a uniform temperature throughout, while conduction heaters transfer heat directly to components such as valves and pipework where thermal energy is needed. Both types can be mounted horizontally or vertically, making installation in confined spaces straightforward.

Two heater types — fixed resistance and self-regulating (SL) — available to suit different applications and environments. Fixed-resistance models (D100, F90, etc.) have an output characteristic that naturally decreases as ambient temperature rises, as shown in the performance graph. The self-regulating (SL) type exploits PTC characteristics to automatically reduce power consumption as the surrounding temperature increases, eliminating the need for an external thermostat. This makes the SL type ideal for condensation prevention, effectively suppressing humidity build-up inside enclosures and maintaining the reliability of electronic equipment.
-

Two heating methods — electric convection and electric conduction — cover a broad range of application needs. Electric convection heaters are mounted inside enclosures, where naturally circulating warm air maintains a uniform internal temperature. They are well suited for freeze protection and temperature maintenance of precision instrumentation and control panels. Electric conduction heaters are mounted in direct contact with valve manifolds, NeSSi systems, and other fluid pathways, preventing freezing and precipitation through direct heat transfer to pipes and components. Both types are available in explosion-proof versions for safe use in hazardous areas.

A comprehensive lineup of explosion-proof heaters covering three key applications: freeze protection, condensation prevention, and temperature maintenance. The electric convection heater range includes MULTITHERM, VARITHERM, MINITHERM, and MICROTH series models. The electric conduction heater range covers QUADRATHERM, BLOCKTHERM, MINITHERM, and DSETHERM, providing a choice of models to match available installation space and required output power.
-

A full lineup of temperature controllers and thermostats designed to work in combination with INTERTEC heaters. The TS thermostat is a compact, cable-integrated model for simple applications. The TAE thermostat is an explosion-proof standard version, while the TAEK thermostat adds both high- and low-limit alarm functions for more demanding requirements. Where precise control is needed, a digital temperature controller enables accurate feedback control to maintain the desired setpoint. In addition to the self-regulating (SL) heater option, pairing a heater with an external controller allows flexible temperature management tailored to each system's requirements.

Heat transfer within an enclosure is visualized as an electrical circuit model to support optimal heater selection. The model represents five key elements as circuit components: the insulated enclosure, the convection heater, heat loss to the surrounding environment, the instrumentation inside, and thermal short-circuit paths (heat bypass). The fundamental design principles are to maximize thermal resistance at the enclosure wall (through high-performance insulation) and to minimize thermal resistance between the heater and the internal air (through large fins). INTERTEC provides engineering support based on this model to help customers design energy-efficient heating systems.

The SMART BLOCKTHERM system integrates an explosion-proof electric heater with a built-in microprocessor controller. By combining a temperature controller (TC) and a thermostat (TS) within the heater unit itself, the system achieves precise temperature control without the need for separate external control equipment. Modbus RTU communication support enables data integration with higher-level systems as well as remote monitoring and control. The unit holds major Ex certifications including ATEX, IECEx, CSA cUS, and Class I Division 2, and operates reliably down to -60°C. Application examples include integration into NeSSi sample systems and instrumentation enclosures.
-

An application example of conduction heaters integrated into enclosures for analyzers and sample conditioning systems. INTERTEC electric conduction heaters (such as the BLOCKTHERM series) are mounted inside NeSSi (New Sampling/Sensor Initiative) compliant sample system enclosures to prevent freezing and precipitation in sample lines, valves, and regulators even in low-temperature environments. By placing the heater in direct contact with the manifold or panel, efficient localized heating is achieved within a compact footprint. This contributes to stable analyzer operation and sustained measurement accuracy.
