The pixel shifting technology is a technique that moves the X/Y axes between the pixel pitches of a camera's image sensor using piezo actuators in sub-micron units. By capturing images each time it shifts, and then synthesizing them, this technology enhances resolution. With a 25M (25 million pixel) camera, it is possible to achieve a resolution equivalent to 100 million pixels with 4 shifts (2 shifts in both vertical and horizontal directions) and a resolution equivalent to 400 million pixels with 16 shifts (4 shifts in both vertical and horizontal directions).
