Slow filtration is a method that filters water through multiple layers of gravel, removing impurities and bacteria from the water through physical removal by the gravel and biological removal by the filtration membrane formed by proliferating algae and microbial communities. It can filter without using chemicals like chlorine, and because the decomposition by microorganisms is highly effective, it can produce extremely clean water. However, as the name 'slow' suggests, the filtration takes a considerable amount of time. Additionally, it is vulnerable to rapid changes in water quality, and if water that is more turbid than the standard passes through, the filtration membrane can be destroyed. Therefore, it is not a suitable filtration method for pools or hot spring baths in terms of speed and the instability of water quality.
