[Data] Vibration control measures for buildings and machinery using TMD (Tuned Mass Damper)
Introduction to vibration control measures for buildings and machinery using TMD, illustrated with photos and illustrations.
This document introduces vibration control measures for buildings and mechanical equipment using TMD (Tuned Mass Damper). Since supplying TMD for vertical vibration control of cable-stayed bridges in 1987, Gelb has a wealth of experience in providing solutions for horizontal vibrations in skyscrapers, control towers, observation towers, and vertical vibrations in bridge girders and large-span floors. Vertical vibration control is applied to structures such as long-span beams, staircases, and stadium roofs. The TMD, which operates in the vertical direction, consists of a coil spring and a viscous damper, and has been adopted for pedestrian vibration control exemplified by the London Millennium Bridge and for traffic vibration control on the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge. Additionally, an AMD (Active Mass Damper) was installed beneath a concert hall in a hotel in Las Vegas as a measure against vertical vibrations, and local measurements confirmed its effectiveness in reducing vibrations. basic information
[Case of TMCS being adopted for seismic retrofitting of a certain government building in Romania] <Challenges> ■ In this seismic retrofitting, it was difficult to implement base isolation for the building, and maintaining the facade and conducting construction while the building was occupied were conditions. <Suggestions> ■ Adopted Gelb's TMCS (Tuned Mass Control System) ■ As a final measure, the previously divided structure was reinforced as a single unit, and our TMD (mass of 96t, 6 units) was installed. ■ It has been analytically confirmed that various responses during an earthquake can be reduced by approximately 50%. ■ MCS is particularly easy to implement in existing buildings and does not compromise the building's functionality. *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.*
