Introducing a case study on the application of CFD to Dyson's "Dyson Air Multiplier (a new type of fan without blades)."
I would like to introduce information about how CAE and CFD are beneficial to society, including interesting application examples, primarily based on articles from the information magazine "ADVANTAGE" published by ANSYS, Inc. and ANSYS Japan Co., Ltd. This time, I will present a CFD application case for Dyson's "Dyson Air Multiplier (a bladeless fan)." When I first saw this product in an electronics store and in commercials, I was truly amazed. The features of the bladeless fan "Dyson Air Multiplier" include: - Safety - The phenomenon of "buffeting," where airflow around an aircraft separates from the surface and creates vortices that vibrate the aircraft, does not occur. - Reduced noise - By forming a high-speed air layer that draws in surrounding air, it delivers a large volume of air, creating a smooth breeze like a natural zephyr. This was an example that seemed to enhance design efficiency by coupling with the multi-purpose robust design optimization support tool "modeFRONTIER" handled by IDAJ.

The "Dyson Air Multiplier" was a new product, so previous experience was not helpful, and a lot of trial and error was necessary. ⇒ With the conventional prototype-centered development method, it took about two weeks for evaluation per model. ⇒ By utilizing ANSYS Fluent, it became possible to conduct evaluations of up to 10 types in one day! ⇒ By setting up sub-regions to divide the analysis area and only changing the parts that needed design modifications, the remeshing work was completed in about 10 minutes. ⇒ Evaluated 200 design proposals. ⇒ The prototype had an air amplification ratio of 6:1 ⇒ Successfully improved it to 15:1 in the end!
