There are various methods for measuring the outer diameter of hair that have been used traditionally, but this device was co-developed with Shiseido to enable more precise and rapid measurements. *The operation is via a touch panel interface.

Chuck Mechanism - The mechanism clamps both ends of the hair, allowing measurements to be taken without being affected by external forces (such as wind). - Since both ends rotate in sync, the hair itself does not twist. Shape Recognition - The sensor can move in the longitudinal direction of the hair, making it easy to recognize the shape along that direction. Hair Outer Diameter Measurement - Data measurement of 360 points (1°/point) around the circumference of the hair. - Measurement of two points: major diameter (peak) and minor diameter (bottom). Automatic Measurement - Outer diameter measurements in the longitudinal direction of the hair can be done automatically at arbitrary pitches with an automatic feeding mechanism. Analysis Method - Measurement results (data) can be collected on a computer and analyzed as Excel data.
