In order to reduce sludge disposal costs and electricity expenses, we are presenting the advantages of using jelly gel carriers and the predicted values resulting from their use. For example, when treating wastewater with an organic matter concentration of BOD 1000 mg/L through biological wastewater treatment, approximately 40% of the treated BOD is converted into excess sludge, which is solid matter. The generated excess sludge (solid matter) must be removed. The removed sludge is dewatered using a dewatering machine and is entrusted to a waste disposal contractor as industrial waste. The cost is approximately 20 to 40 yen/kg. According to comparative data, by using jelly gel carriers to reduce the sludge conversion rate, the sludge treatment cost has decreased from about 12 million yen per year to 6 million yen.
