Automation of mercury measurement in exhaust gases for improved operational efficiency. Reduction of human error as well.

This technical document discusses the efficiency improvements in the measurement of mercury in exhaust gases using the automatic pretreatment device "DEENA." The method for measuring mercury in exhaust gases is defined in the Ministry of the Environment's Notification No. 94 of 2016, and the analytical samples are broadly categorized into "gaseous mercury," which is collected in an absorbent solution, and "particulate mercury," which is collected on a cylindrical filter paper. This mercury measurement method faces challenges such as increased labor involved in the measurement process and the potential for human error due to all tasks being performed manually, which has led to a desire for automation to improve work efficiency. Therefore, to achieve work efficiency and eliminate human errors, we conducted a study on mercury measurement using the automatic addition heating pretreatment device "DEENA" manufactured by BL Tech Co., Ltd. 【What is DEENA】 It is a device that can perform the entire process from the addition of reagents, stirring, heating, cooling, to the addition of internal standard reagents and dilution fully automatically. According to reports by Doda et al., very good recovery rates were achieved in the addition and recovery tests of heavy metals (Al, Fe, Mn, Ba, Cd, Cr, Cu, Pb, Zn) in water sample decomposition treatment using DEENA.
